Anchor Road Cottage

This charming cottage in Sag Harbor, NY was built in 1929. It still has a hitching post at the end of the driveway. Most would have probably demolished and built new but the owners, a couple, wanted to make the house more functional while preserving its’ history. They had used it as a weekend home for many years and in 2020 decided to make it their full time residence.

This required a renovation which included more closet space, a larger kitchen, and a larger primary bedroom with a walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom. A quiet property, nestled on a flag lot surrounded by trees galore, deer and wild turkeys, the owner’s goal was to open up the space to the natural surroundings and to increase the sense of space through the use of light and color.

Larger windows and thoughtful window placement was also a natural solution. As the house footprint is on the smaller side, all bedrooms were to be multi-functional and provide both home office space as well as sleeping for visiting children and guests.
